The Wines of Catalonia: Penedès, Costers del Segre & Conca de Barberà

taps suroThe vinous pride of Barcelona province is the Penedès, home to the lion's share of Spain's Cava industry as well as a handful of notable still-wine producers. Further inland from Penedès, on the border where Tarragona province touches up against Lleida province, is the Conca de Barberà D.O. Here, red wines made from Spain's signature grape, Tempranillo (locally called Ull de Llebre), are often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon.
